About the Role

As the Information Protection Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in establishing and maturing our enterprise information classification and protection capability, with a strong initial focus on unstructured data. Acting as a trusted subject matter expert, you will design, configure and embed scalable information protection controls—primarily leveraging Microsoft Purview—ensuring they transition into sustainable, business‑as‑usual operations. Your work will directly support regulatory compliance, reduce data risk and enable confident, data‑driven decision making across the organisation.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
  • Designing and embedding enterprise-wide information classification and protection frameworks, with a focus on unstructured data
  • Configuring and managing sensitivity labels, auto‑labelling policies, data loss prevention and related controls within Microsoft Purview
  • Developing reusable patterns and standards to enable consistent, repeatable operational use across the business
  • Producing insights, dashboards and reporting to demonstrate control effectiveness, coverage and risk trends
  • Supporting automated control testing and contributing to audit‑ready information protection practices
  • Providing knowledge transfer, guidance and thought leadership to uplift internal capability and reduce reliance on niche expertise
This position is open to candidates based in Perth (preferred), Brisbane or Sydney on a permanent full-time basis.

About You

You are a confident information protection specialist who combines deep technical expertise with a pragmatic, business‑focused mindset. You thrive in complex, regulated environments and are adept at influencing outcomes across diverse stakeholder groups without formal authority. With a passion for building sustainable capability, you enjoy translating technical controls into practical solutions that balance risk management with business enablement.
Ideally, you will have:
  • Proven experience designing and implementing information classification and protection frameworks in enterprise environments
  • Strong hands‑on expertise with Microsoft Purview, including sensitivity labels, auto‑classification, DLP and governance capabilities
  • Sound knowledge of data governance, privacy, security and risk principles within regulated industries
  • Demonstrated ability to transition solutions from project delivery into business‑as‑usual operating models
  • A structured, analytical approach to solving complex and ambiguous data protection challenges
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts in clear, business‑relevant terms
